Via Ferrata is a climbing route secured by a steel structure fixed to the rock, providing the opportunity to conquer inaccessible peaks for both beginners and experienced climbers. Via Ferrata Piva has been designed to be suitable for various categories of visitors, from beginners to experienced mountaineers. Part of the route is also adapted for children. This attraction is an excellent choice for family trips, hanging out with friends, or organising team-building activities with colleagues.

It is a new, attractive tourist product in the first declared Nature Park in Montenegro –Nature Park “Piva”.

The location of the Via ferrata is captivating in both its attractiveness and beauty. It is situated in the massive canyon of the Piva River, about 5 km downstream from the Hidro Power Plant Mratinje, near the bridge over the Piva River.

The Via ferrata is relatively short, not too demanding, and requires very little hiking and climbing technique to overcome and ascend.

The via ferrata is classified with difficulty ratings B and C. It has been constructed according to all via ferrata construction standards (French type of construction). This is also the first Via Ferrata in the Balkans built and certified in accordance with the European standard EN 16869-2017.

The first part of the Via ferrata starts from the very bridge over the Piva River, descending along a steep forest path to the Kaluđerska Springs, which flow into the Piva River. There, visitors will find a sightseeing platform with benches where they can rest and drink cool water from the spring.

The Via ferrata continues with a traverse above the Piva River, where visitors will have the opportunity to have the cold river water splash their legs when the turbines at the Mratinje dam are turned on.

The final, third part of the Via ferrata is a vertical section of 80 meters located near the bridge, where the via ferrata ends. This vertical section is not too demanding but is very attractive. One part has a slight overhang, which is also not very challenging (rating C).

Visitors are provided with complete equipment, which includes a helmet, Via Ferrata set, climbing harness, and climbing gloves.

The total length of the Via ferrata is about 900 meters. The time to complete the route depends on the group size. Each person who wants to climb the via ferrata must fill out and sign a Risk Waiver and Liability Release form, presenting a personal document (ID card or passport).

Afterwards, the guide will familiarize guests with the equipment, assist them, if necessary, in putting on the gear, and show them the techniques for clipping carabiners and climbing on the cable and metal steps drilled into the rock. After that, each guest must pass through a short training course, where the guide will assess their physical condition. If the guide determines that a guest is not skilled or prepared for climbing the via ferrata, they have the absolute right to deny them permission to climb.

It is estimated that for a group of 5 to 8 people, with briefing, equipment fitting, training, and climbing the via ferrata, the entire experience will take 2 to 2.5 hours.

Plužine is located approximately 130 km from Podgorica Airport (Montenegro), 110 km from Tivat Airport (Montenegro), 220 km from Dubrovnik Airport (Croatia), and 150 km from Tirana Airport (Albania).
