Stećci
The complex life of the medieval period did not bypass Šavnik; rather, its cultural significance contributed to the unique and anthropological development of the region. The territory of the Municipality of Šavnik is rich in sites where burials under stećci were conducted, representing a distinctive phenomenon in marking burial places. Within the municipality, there are 112 stećci from different historical periods, spread across various locations, of which we will highlight the more accessible ones.

The stećci in Gornja Bijela are located in a village cemetery, at the center of which stands the remains of a church. An altar table is present, and the foundation of the church is clearly visible. The stećci were repurposed as spolia in the construction of the church. Two-thirds of the monolithic hewn stone blocks remain stacked on top of one another, with three of them clearly identifiable as stećci.
The stećci in Pošćenje are scattered within the village cemetery among more recent graves. At the entrance to the cemetery, there is a displaced stećak in the form of an elongated chest, uniquely decorated. Around the church, at least six stećci are present, while above the foundational zone of the church, large stećci with clearly visible engraved decorative elements can be found. According to archaeological research, 15 to 16 stećci are embedded in the lower walls of the church. This is most likely not the final number, as many stećci were used as structural support for other stones.
